Talking Tunes: Nite Jewel and Modern Sky Festival Incoming
After a wee holiday break, there's a fair bit to catch up on relating to our city and the music news within. The biggest news actually came our way but one short hour ago when we got the lineup for the upcoming Modern Sky Festival 2013. It will go ahead from November 27 until December 7 at various venues around the city, and very sorry to be a tease, but we've been sworn to secrecy on announcing the acts for the time being. I reckon it's a case of not wanting to jump the gun and confirm stuff before the visa stamps are dried rather than just simply being arsey. Rest assured that as soon as I'm given the nod, we'll let you know that line up. Suffice I hope is it to say for now that there are a couple of top acts coming our way in that winter period.
We just got off the horn with Canadian "jizz jazz" enthusiast Mac DeMarco. What an erm ... hoot he is. He'll be winging his way to MAO Livehouse for a November 29 show. Sounds like one not to be missed.
A higher-than-usual number of Halloween-themed music shows are in planning. Something to look forward to, but we'll have a full list when all the confirmed dates are in next week.
Details are now finalized for the Dong Dong "music festival and convention". Go here to check out the updated lineup and venues.
Yugong Yishan have announced their November schedule. Three highlights include Finnish folk metal sextet Korpiklaani on November 2, and Californian "technical death metal" outfit The Faceless on November 23.
That up there was the funk disco-inspired "One Second of Love" by Nite Jewel who is playing at XP on Saturday night (Oct 12). Head over and catch her live if you get the chance. She's very good.
Why not head over to Yugong Yishan tonight (Oct 10) and see Ibrahim Maalouf performing as part of the 2013 JZ Festival?
Here are The Killers doing "Read My Mind" at ThinkPad Space last week.
And go here for more details of upcoming music shows.
