Talking Tunes: The Lumineers to Light Us Up and Dong Dong Lands

The Lumineers - Ho Hey

Dong Dong Music Festival and Convention 2013 gets underway tonight. Well, the convention element does, but that's no concern of yours – industry folk only, okay? No, you'll care about tomorrow when the festivities get underway.

It gets going with a Friday night show at Yugong Yishan, Temple Bar, Dada, and Hot Cat Club.

For a full run down of the upcoming program, go along to their official website here.

Our highliights are:

  • Rock 'n' Love Night on Friday night (Nov 8) at Yugong Yishan featuring performances from St.Lô (France), Francesco Tristano (Luxembourg) and our very own Nova Heart.
  • SVBKVLT, an eclectic night of dancefloor disturbing at Dada also on Friday (Nov 8).
  • Emika, Teddy Boy Kill, Soundspade and Shackup at Dada on Saturday night (Nov 9).
  • Telepopmusik at Yugong Yishan on Sunday night (Nov 10) as the French electro trio bring down the curtain on Dong Dong.

Split Works are already at work preparing for next March's edition of the JUE Festival and have nailed down a couple of their "Pre-JUE" performers. Arguably the most notable of them is Grammy-nominated folk rockers, The Lumineers. More on the run up to JUE 2014 can be found here.

Every so often we get a wonderfully quaint reminder of days gone by (remember Michael Bolton, Kenny G and Elton John all within a few weeks of each other last year?). The coming few days offers up another serving of nostalgia as we welcome The Wailers to town tonight (Nov 7). They'll play The One Club. Then on Saturday (Nov 9), the Godfather of Post-bop, Herbie Hancock swings through town, playing ThinkPad Space.

Elsewhere, Aussie four-piece Witch Hats are at 2 Kolegas on Saturday night (Nov 9). They were once described as "misanthrope rock," which I think is just brilliant.
