Come On Baby, Light My Fire: Fireworks on Sale Beginning Today

Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! It's time to start hoarding fireworks as sales of the little buggers are authorized to begin today in Beijing at over 1,000 streetside outlets set up around the city.

Screw PM 2.5 concerns, it's tradition ... or superstition ... or whatever. And revel in the fact that while Americans must make due with lying around on picnic blankets while their governments light off fireworks for them, we here in the PR of C are pretty much free to blow them off on our own... within stipulated guidelines, of course.

While sales start today, city regulations restrict lighting fireworks within the 5th Ring to 7am to midnight during a time period from Chinese New Year's Eve through to the 15th day of the lunar month (this year, that translates to Jan 31 to Feb 14). If you read Chinese, there are Android and Apple apps for finding the fireworks retailer nearest you (just search your app store for 买烟花摇一摇). Look for them around town -- a few places to try include the north gate of the Worker’s Gymnasium; the northwest corner of Bldg D62 in Fulicheng; and the empty lot in the northeast corner of Chaoyang Park.

And in case you missed it, here are our previous suggestions for some of the more unusual sounding items to load your arsenal with, all from Dodo Fireworks.
