How to Watch the 2016 Oscars in Beijing

You may not be able to catch this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards or Taiwan’s Golden Horse awards online in China this year, but there are still plenty of other options.

This year the The British Academy Film Awards were broadcast on the mainland for the first time through Youku. And Mango TV, the online streaming service owned and operated by Hunan TV, have the rebroadcasting rights for the Golden Globes and the People’s Choice Awards.

As far as we know, streaming of the Oscars in the States is limited to subscription TV customers via the Watch ABC App but, according to Time, it "requires proof of a TV provider account, and it is available for use only in Chicago, Fresno, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, and San Francisco."

But just this week, iQIYI announced it would be streaming the Oscars in both English and Chinese. Judging from past Oscars on iQIYI it seems safe to say that you’ll be able to hear it broadcast in English.

The red carpet live-stream will start at 6.30am February 29 (Monday morning!). There isn’t a direct link at the moment but this search for ‘Oscars’ on iQIYI should probably get you close.
