Sanlitun bars reopen after a month of closure

Following almost a month of closure – and even longer for others – Sanlitun-centric Chaoyang bars have finally been given the go-ahead to reopen just in time for the weekend. Reopenings follow Beijing's downgrading to risk level three status and include various bars in Nali Patio and Courtyard 4 and as far out as Paddy O'Shea's on Dongzhimen Waidajie, Arrow Factory Brewing (pictured above) by the Liangma River, and Slow Boat in Maizidian. Of course, we're not completely out of the woods yet and the strict restrictions we've come to expect still apply, including limitations on what types of alcohol can be sold, so it's best to call ahead and avoid disappointment. Nevertheless, with many bars still closed around the world in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus, this is a good indication of more Beijing opening-up to come.

Pints for pups at Side Street

Over in Dongcheng, Side Street will host the first-ever Pints for Pups fundraiser event this Saturday, 4-8pm. All profits from the RMB 50 entrance ticket (which comes with a free pint), as well as RMB 10 from every pint bought, goes toward Lost Puppies of Beijing. For your efforts, you'll receive an endless supply of cuteness in the form of an array of adoptable pups (including the adorable Pickles above) ready for rehoming and eager for some hugs. Other dogs are also welcome at the event, though they must remain on a leash and be well-behaved.

Sip and Paint with Nadia

Like to get artistic when you paint? Then you'll want to head to the latest edition of Sip and Paint this Saturday, 2-5pm, at Schindler's Tankstelle with instructor Nadia. Even if you're a novice, don't worry as no artistic experience is required. Simply turn up – sip, paint, and create! For RMB 398, you get a free glass of Champagne and unlimited refreshments as well as all the materials you need to create your next masterpiece, which you can take home once done. If you miss this edition, Nadia will be working her magic again on Tuesday at Cheers Central Park Plaza.

Happy hour at Sanlitun's Bei Zhaolong Hotel, a Joie de Vivre hotel

To celebrate the reopening of their terrace, 6-9pm daily, the Tuanjiehu-adjacent Bei Zhaolong Hotel, a Joie de Vivre hotel has released a new range of drink and food specials throughout the week. They include an Italian-style apericena set (a more food-heavy take on aperitivo, RMB 108), a two-hour free-flow beer happy hour for just RMB 98, and free-flow wine for RMB 168. See the whole range of deals here.

Home Plate Sanyuanqiao happy hour

Finally, Home Plate Sanyuanqiao launched a "boozy-woozy" brunch every Saturday. For RMB 150, you'll get unfettered four-hour access to selected cocktails, house mixes, and draft beer, including Boxing Cat's Contender Pale Ale and Jing-A's Tuhao Gold. There'll also be music from an onsite DJ to keep you bobbing while you get sloshed on the terrace.
