The Roots' Dongzhimen Branch Has Closed

It may only be the start of 2026, but Beijing's F&B scene has already seen its first casualty with The Roots announcing that their Dongzhimen branch officially closed yesterday (Jan 4).

In a notice posted on the restaurant's Dianping page, the team thanked guests for their long-term support and emphasized that their connection to Beijing remains firm, with their three other branches in the capital remaining open. You can see the official closure notice below.

Opened in late 2020, the Dongzhimen branch marked The Roots' move from Yizhuang into the city center. Run by Frenchman Antoine Mansuy and his wife Masie Lu, the restaurant quickly became known for its delicious Western menu with a Southern European lean. Its intimate space above Paddy O'Shea's, complete with its hearty share-style dishes, such as the Peri Peri Roasted Chicken, made it a firm favorite over the years.

If you've got fond memories of meals at the Dongzhimen branch, now's the time to revisit those favorites at one of their remaining locations around the city. You can see details for each location below.
