Bilingual Tourism Guide for Xicheng Released

City officials have released a new, bilingual visitor’s guide, Visit Beijing Xicheng, created specifically for Xicheng District as part of the city’s efforts to provide support for international travelers to Beijing. The guide, in Chinese and English, highlights dozens of tourist attractions, cultural spots, shopping, dining experiences and more around Xicheng, grouping the guide’s content into six categories: Attractions, Citywalk, Culture, Cuisine, Hotels, and Travel Tips.
The sleek guide features photos and addresses of points of interest, and it plots suggested sites contained within on a colorful tourist map of Xicheng District. The Travel Tips section also gives information on where to obtain departure tax refund services, and pick up some intangible heritage–inspired gifts.
The guide also has QR codes to direct people to follow the district’s “BeijingXicheng” accounts on different social media platforms, and it also contains an updated map of the Beijing subway system.

Subway Line 10 to Upgrade Signaling System

Line 10 of the Beijing subway system is reportedly undergoing a signaling system upgrade, which will see the line adopt a heterogeneous dual-active signaling system based on CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) and PB-TACS (Perception-Based Train-to-Train Autonomous Train Control System) and allowing Line 10 trains to seamlessly switch between the two systems to ensure safe operation.
Line 10, which opened in 2008, was the first subway line in China to introduce CBTC technology, which it has been utilizing for nearly two decades. After the system upgrade, Line 10 will continue to use CBTC as its main signaling system, with the PB-TACS system serving as the backup system. In the event of a main system failure, the driver of the train in the area affected by the failure can implement a “one-click switch” to the backup system to facilitate continued efficient operation of the train, significantly improving the system's functional resilience and reliability.
Railsystem.net describes CBTC as “a railway signaling system that makes use of the telecommunications between the train and track equipment for the traffic management and infrastructure control.” PB-TACS enables direct train-to-train communication by allowing important information about functionality and other travel metrics to be exchanged wirelessly directly between trains.
