Nobody seems to care about anything or anyone here. Oh, correction, themselves and making as much money as possible regardless of how that may be achieved. Public health and safety ??? Pfft !
Very nice interior -- dimly lit, cool music, hip urban design. Certainly unlike anything else in the neighborhood.
Extremely ambitious menu, with pizza, pasta (RMb 35-66), entrees (RMB 65-108), salads, hero sandwiches (RMB 30-56), burgers (RMB 47-52), mussels (10 different options/presentations), 34 different appetizers and a wide range of 69 beers.
The prices are moderate except for the New York Style pizzas, which are a bit on the high end (starting at RMB 88 for a 10-inch Plain cheese pizza), given other options around town.
There's enough on the menu to keep you coming back for more. I'll be paying a few more visits in the near future ...
^ that having been said, I upgraded from the 8210 to the 8511 mask (below)
... they are more expensive but slightly more durable, and have several factors that make me like them better:
1. the shape is more cupped so that the filter isn't pressed directly against your face all the time;
2. exhalation valve alleviates the buildup of humidity from your breath
3. the soft metal bar over the bridge of the nose allows you to bend the mask to the contours of your face, allowing for a better fit (less unfiltered air coming in over the top of the mask)
4. the straps are more durable (the point of failure is usually where they are attached (glued/stapled) to the mask -- these are stapled
if you need any evidence that a N95 mask does anything, I offer you my experience from a few years back:
Post-use dissection of dust filter. I used it for two mornings, walking outside. 4 hours total usage time.
I bought these filters for 16 kuai each at Beijing United. They can, for sure, be found cheaper elsewhere and if you buy in bulk.
1. At left: 3M™ Particulate Respirator 8210, N95, New. At Right: 3M™ Particulate Respirator 8210, N95, after I used it for a total of four hours over two consecutive days in Beijing.
2. Filter cut in half.
3. First outer gauze layer peeled away, exposing main exterior filter.
4. Main exterior filter cut away, showing second layer.
5. Second layer peeled away to show inner layer. Thankfully, looks clean -- so at least the major shmutz didn't make it to my lungs.
why am i wanna try this when i see this pic up there? B-) maybe No Pants Day should take a rain check. like in November would be reasonable...u definitely gonna encounter a lots of them..but in january i guess u would probably only notice those goose bumps on legs #:S
On another related note - BeijingKids writer Ellis Friedman, who has worked in the air purifier industry, has an informative post about the ins-and-outs of purchasing an air purifier.
@zhwj0119 linked to a People's Daily article on Twitter that quotes Beijing Disease Control head Xie Hui as saying "cloth masks are sufficient" for polluted days.
Can't find the Hunter anywhere anymore - wonder if it has been discontinued. I found a Air-O-Swiss with a HEPA filter on Taobao going from RMB1,200. Can't find any reviews on it but it seems to be working ok so far.
We've amended the post to include Brussels who will be showing both the AFC and NFC playoff games next Monday, January 21. They will also be offering RMB 25 Tiger Drafts and RMB 100 beer towers
The picture and the article regarding "pollution can be seen from space" is actually from last year.
So its not from the last days which of course doesnt make it any better.

Um. Train goes through stations without stopping.
Re: Jam-Packed Line 10 Starts Skipping Stations
with only one track, how is it that some stations can be skipped?

sar K.,
Good spot. That should not have slipped past us. It's been corrected.
Re: Jam-Packed Line 10 Starts Skipping Stations
“your commute," not "you're commute." better change that.

More on "official transparency":
@zhwj0119 linked to a People's Daily article on Twitter that quotes Beijing Disease Control head Xie Hui as saying "cloth masks are sufficient" for polluted days.
Let's hope this was quoted out of context.

"Masks
One strap paper masks and ordinary surgical masks has no effect on PM2.5 prevention.
While wearing the N95 mask ensure there is a tight seal around the face. Deeply inhale and exhale to test whether the mask is air-tight."

Good point - and my bad for not spotting that. But I'm glad to see you agree that whether visible from space or not, we are all losing out.
