The story was first posted on Weibo and has run up 242,795 comments under the topic "Young Foreign Man Got Schemed," with almost all commentors saying the "dama" ought to be "embarrassed" at her "awful" behaviour.

Weibo Netizens must not get outside much.

This is the basically the same behavior exhibited at every minor accident in Beijing.

The only difference in the proceedings is the status of the two parties:

Case 1: Perceived Higher Status Hits Perceived Lower Status: lower status feigns injury and demands compensation.

Case 2: Perceived Lower Status Hits Perceived Higher Status: higher status threatens lower status with their authority and connections and demands compensation.

Case 3: Roughly Equal / unclear status of two parties: Protracted argument over who is at fault.

In all cases, all parties remain permanently frozen at the scene in the middle of the road, thereby inconveniencing the approximately 20,000 cars that will pile up behind them in a matter of minutes.

A good reason to wear a helmet. And a face mask for pollution. Hides one's foreignness just enough to help get past scammers like this.

It's not just foreigners getting scammed. Happens to rich Chinese too.

Doubt wisely; in strange way / To stand inquiring right is not to stray; / To sleep, or run wrong, is. (Donne, Satire III)

One thing i don't understand when this happens is why the Polica doesn't check the cameras. There is surveillance at any and every corner and they should be able to just phone someone to check.

The only way these scheeming bastards will learn is that they get fined/jailed if they do this.

This kind of thing makes my blood boil at the injustice. I hate that the man had to pay just to be done with the ordeal. I hope the money went straight to the hospital and not to her pocket. I agree with you but unfortunately I don't see this improving. This has been an issue for a while in all parts of China, involving everyone (Chinese and Foreigners). This is the first time I've heard about it happening in some time but the fact that the police "advised" the guy to just pay doesn't ease my mind. The doctors proved that she wasn't injured yet the police wanted to take the easy way out. It didn't help that one person involved was a foreigner, either. I can see the same thing happen over and over again until the police decide to do their job and arrest the correct perputrator. The woman should have been arrested, booked, and fined for being a "public nuisance" (among other things). But she got away with it and was 1800 RMB richer. For all we know, this woman could be scamming multiple people and she is able to continue her facade. Comments online are nice and all but I'm still gonna be extra diligent when I'm riding around on my scooter!

Hi Ni.hao.dinosaur,

That was a bit confusing and I've amended to what I hope makes more sense. The lunch special is RMB 30 for one of four options:

1) a quesadilla with salad and rice

2) a chicken burrito with salad and rice

3) two flautitas with salad and rice

4) a torta de jamon with salad

Each of these comes with chips and salsa as well as the choice of either a soda (Coca-cola or Sprite) or a bowl of mushroom soup.

Glad you enjoyed the read, and I hope your meal is good. I'd be interested to hear what you think – feel free to leave a review on the directory page as soon as it is up.

They have a lunch special (RMB 30, 10.30am-3pm) which is a set menu of a chicken burrito, quesadilla or flautas, or ham and cheese torta with mushroom soup or a soft drink.

Could you clarify this sentence? Bassically the special is the burrito or the torta with soup? I stopped in and Esteban is a really nice guy, but the restaurant was booked for a private event. No problem though, compairing local and imported brews at NBeer made for a fun night.

Great review. I'll be sure and stop in for lunch.

Good point, but as the principle of toxicology goes: The dose makes the poison. It is a give and take and that is why we are still taking antibiotics and pain killers. The safe acetominophen dosage for adults is believed to between 300-600mg  every four hours (maximum 4g/day),  side effects are not common if not used for a long period. Given the fact that 999 contains 0.2g/package and a flu usaully does not last more than 7 days, it should be an option to trade off  fever and pains to feel better. You can protect yourself by avoiding alcohol, and people who have liver problems should seek the doctor's opinion. We are not in the place to tell the FDA on how to manufacture medicine.

I'm a native Beijinger and I'm really sorry what you've been through. I have a one-year Labrador myself so I can totally understand your anger. The owner of our pet shop, also a friend of us, mentioned your misfortune a few months ago(perhaps she saw it in some news) and showed the same anger. Maybe it's your misfortune, but it's a nuisance for all dog lovers and animal lovers. I really want to do something about it! Just don't give up on Beijing!
