New Subway Cars to Hold Even More People, Starting October 1st

Those of us lucky enough to stay in town over the holidays have something to look forward to … Line One is getting a National Day gift of 19 new trains. Starting this Saturday, subway users will be able to ride the new and improved iron horse. They are the same generation as the current newest cars – those from the Olympics – but these have some brand-new features.

• Lengthened vertical handles (now floor-to-ceiling)
• Foldable seats
• New overhead handles
• New bubble-tube shape for packing in more passengers

(Because we just weren't feeling packed enough yet. Thanks, bubble-tube shape.)

Fans of trains and electricity will be interested to know that these 19 new trains will replace the last 19 old-fashioned direct-current trains on Line One.

Maths whizzes will be delighted to hear that there will be 70 trains running on Line One, which means you'll stand a 27% chance of catching one of the shiny new ones. You also stand a 44% chance of that train being one of the 31 without air-con. We always get those.
