The curtain will rise in early March on China's biggest political events, the China People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the National People's Congress (NPC), which will open on March 3 and 5, respectively.
Also known as the liang hui or "two meetings," unlike for 2015, when the meeting dates were announced in December 2014, this year has seen a return to a traditional February promulgation.
This annual legislative session normally lasts 10 days to two weeks. This is important for the average Beijinger because both during the run-up and the actual meetings can mean snarled traffic and a general tampdown on nightlife and large-scale entertainment events. The dates shouldn't be a surprise: the NPC began on March 5 in 2015, also.
Despite the later announcement, there is still time for Beijingers to plan around large-scale events such as this that can disrupt daily life, including commutes. Good thing Iron Maiden won't be playing until late April.
