Pop-Up Fabric Market
Tang Roulou hold a pop-up mercerie – notions store in English – this weekend, stocking everything you could need for sewing, quilting, and fabric-related crafts. They also sell unique, handmade blankets, quilted jackets, dresses, and accessories that come in a variety of patterns inspired by China of yesteryear. Filipino Pop-Up Luncheon
Join The Filipino Teachers (TFT) as they celebrate traditional Pinoy (slang for Filipino) dishes this Saturday with a special pop-up luncheon. This event is the first of three scheduled to celebrate the unique and delicious cuisine of the Philippines (the next two are planned Oct 21 and Nov 23). Japanese Sake-Themed Party
Seven renowned Japanese sake makers will gather at Nali Patio this Saturday afternoon to turn the Patio into a Japanese wonderland filled with drinks aplenty from the Land of the Rising Sun, as well as food, craft items from local artisans, Japanese dance performances, and live music from DJ Joyz and musician Dan Taylor. There will also be lectures and screenings for those are interested in learning more about the history behind sake and how it gained popularity around the world. Learn more about the attendants here. David Hockney Featured at M Woods
The new M Woods Longfusi is now open, and its debut exhibition is dedicated to British artist David Hockney. As well as being an internationally renowned artist, Hockney is especially well-known here for his crucial role in bringing Chinese art to the Western community via his Chinese-inspired collections. The exhibition spans almost the entirety of Hockney's career and even has a decorated roof, which has been transformed into a three-dimensional version of arguably the artist's most famous work: "A Bigger Splash," and where visitors can immerse themselves a social-media friendly version of the piece. Hike Through the War Tunnels and the Old Gold Mines
Beijing's rural areas are full of fascinating hidden sites that you could easily drive right past without noticing. One such place is the focus of this weekend Beijing Hikers trip, exploring an old system of tunnels buried beneath a village in Pinggu District. The tunnel system was built in the 1940s as part of a guerilla warfare strategy, and tunnels joined together many of the houses in the village with innumerable hidden entrances and exits. After exploring the tunnel network, the group will follow several of the old trails between villages and finish their hike at Gold Mountain Village, a small settlement named after the wildcat gold mines in the surrounding hills.
