Heavy rainstorm in Haidian takes two lives

Haidian dwellers were totally unprepared as a heavy rainstorm hit on a Monday evening, leaving two dead after their car became trapped in a pool formed beneath an underpass.

Though the road dried up not long after the flood, Beijingers were left with a deep impression from lives lost.

On Weibo, one netizen wrote: “The rain was so heavy that about 60 millimeters of rainfall fell in just 20 mins!”

This rapid burst of rainfall could very well be one of the reasons for the flooding, but for nearby residents, Hanhe Lu was never an area where heavy flooding is typical. One Beijinger pointed out that another reason it happened might be that frequent rainfalls have caused stagnant water to flow backward under the bridge. “There are other areas close to the bridge where severe flooding happened and water could not get out, and the remaining puddles simply flow back to this area, causing a rapid rise of water under this bridge.”

Outside of Pixar, you've probably never seen a remote-control car zooming its way through the traffic on the motorway, but one motorcyclist was witness to such a sight in Huairou district.

The motorcyclist spotted this tiny vehicle swaggering through traffic–apparently blocking a Mercedes's way, nearly causing the vehicle to run the miniature clear over.

Frowning upon such uncivilized behaviors, the motorcyclist got into a fight with the man behind the remote control. “Do you think this is the kind of place where you could play with your remote-control car?”

Clearly unbothered by his questioning, the man asked: “ Who said I cannot play here? Are you the owner of this road?”

The fight quickly escalated and the driver whipped out his phone and captured the scene where the two were in a heated argument, apparently in a failed attempt to seek empathy as netizens lashed out at his behavior.

“What a dangerous gesture to bring their remote-control car literally on the motorway!” One netizen exclaimed. “Where on earth does this driver have the guts to argue with someone else?” Another commented.

In case if you are still wondering if men like to be called handsome, they do! Even if it's by Beijing Traffic Police. Recently, officers totally took a delivery man all over the moon when he was asking for his Health QR code and complimented on his good looks.

The delivery guy, on a motorcycle, chose to turn a deaf year to the police’s demand at first as he unwillingly put his ID card back in his wallet, but later felt pumped up and immediately took off his helmet, smiling the second he heard the police call him handsome.

Sometimes, all it takes is just a little compliment to make someone’s day!
