Use This Mini Program to Find Your Next Beijing Apartment

Whenever I told people I was apartment hunting in Beijing or Shanghai, I often got asked one specific question: “have you tried Ziroom?”

I’ll have to admit, when I was in Shanghai some of the rooms offered by the real estate company did catch my interest. All the one’s I saw were tidy and well done up; plus not gaudy or overly decorated, but rather spartan.

It’s as if these rooms were a clean slate literally and figuratively, waiting for the newest tenant to call it home.

Another thing that struck me was the company services. Folks I know that have rented with Ziroom always raved about the prompt English service, especially when it came to repairs and appliance issues. They also mentioned monthly cleaning is included in a service fee for most apartments, which is a nice touch.

Here in Beijing, Ziroom offers both shared and private apartment options in some of the capital’s most popular areas to live, including Shuangjing, Sanlitun, Chaoyang Park and Wangjing.

Plus, along with English customer service, it’s easy to hunt for apartments simply by using the company’s WeChat mini-program.

Simply search for the mini-program on WeChat, then head on in and choose which option you’re interested in renting (or scroll down and search by popular areas).

Search results can be customized by price, location, and more, but if no options are available, Ziroom will point you to the next best thing.

Best of all, you can even search for other options in the same compound, and the payment policy for each apartment is available front and center, all in English, no hidden fees, gimmicks or other issues.

Once you’ve found an option you like – or a few – you’ll be connected with a Ziroom representative. From here, you’ll be able to arrange a visit to the apartments you like, all with English speaking support every step of the way.

I had a guy who used a real systematic approach to finding his hotel room in Kai Feng c.2010. He started at one end of the hall and banged on doors. Demanded to be let in. When told fekk awph, he moved along to the next one. (Alcohol seemed to be involved.) I dunno. This would probably work for apartments too.

Come to think on it, same thing happened to me in Vienna in 2016. Maybe the same guy, only he had learned what sounded to be Serbo-Carnation in the meantime. Still didn't get him into any room on the floor.

I once woke up in a van, in North Vancouver, (actually Deep Cove, sorta parta North Vancouver, cheek by jowl to Dollarton, where Malcolm Lowry had his heyday) . Beside my head was this note.: `Hey, we found you sleeping in our van. We didn't have the heart to kick you out on to the street, here's 5 dollars to take a bus home'. There, paperclipped to said note was a Canadian five dollar bill. How I came to be in such van, memory forbides. I do not know. Alcohol may have been involved. I am not making this up.

Could be they abducted you after dosing you with drugged peachy-mint schnapps. Did you do a kidney count before accepting the money?

My kidneys are both functioning well, mind you, after a month long baijiu spree they get a bit fractious.
