Even More Ways to Help Out Japan's Tsunami-Quake Victims

We already wrote a post about what we can do to aid Japan’s tsunami-quake victims, but more of the Beijing community is pulling together to line up charity events for the next few weeks. Read on to see how to join the cause.

We've missed Mao Livehouse's "We-Love-You" Japan Music Benefit, which took place last night. But kudos to the local artists, from Thin Man to Caffe-In, who contributed their musical talents to raise money for the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Tonight, March 23, Mosto and Modo are each hosting a Japan Charity Dinner; see here for details. These two partner restaurants – big winners in our 2011 Beijinger Reader Restaurant Awards – are offering elaborate feasts, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the United Nations World Food Program and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation aid program in Japan. Call now to reserve your place. RMB 490/person (Mosto, includes five-course meal and wine), RMB 390/person (Modo, includes seven plates for two plus wine). 6.30pm. Mosto (5208 6030), Modo (6415 7207)

If you passed up on the concert earlier in the week, you can still make it to Mako Livehouse this Friday, March 25. About 15 popular folk musicians will gather in the name of charity – half of the proceeds will benefit victims of the Japanese tsunami, the other half to the Yunnan earthquake. The lineup includes Xiao Hei, Wan Xiaoli, Zhou Yunpeng, Wu Junde and more. Buy your tickets in advance at 400 610 3721 or at www.damai.cn/ticket_24828.html. RMB 100. 8pm. Mako Livehouse (6402 5080)

Looking for a daytime event? Head to the Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Charity Bazaar this Saturday, March 26, organized by the Japanese Committee of Women and the Belgian Embassy. You'll find a fun-filled afternoon of Japanese traditional dancing and er'hu performances, accompanied by origami folding paper classes and Japanese sushi. Tickets are now available at the Japanese Society at the Changfugong New Otani. RMB 200/adult, free for kids under 15 if accompanied by an adult. 10am-4pm. Embassy of Belgium (6532 1736)

Later next month on April 17, there's the Columbia Community Outreach Event at The Kro’s Nest. This family fundraising brunch – with pizza, beverages and raffle draws – is devoted to generating enough money to build a library in a rural community in Hebei province. However, they’re also giving a portion to the Japanese Red Cross Society. RSVP by April 11 to dhp9@columbia.edu. RMB 200 (adults), RMB 100 (under 10). 11am-2pm. The Kro's Nest (8391 3131)

And finally, on April 24, Victor Chau will be sharing his experience about living in an Indian ashram for a month. The talk will be followed by a rooftop yoga session, Indian tapas, and a raffle and silent auction with donations from Beijing’s top yoga instructors and studios. Proceeds directly benefit the CAI and Japanese Red Cross Society. RSVP to erin@thehutong.com. RMB 50. 3-5.30pm. The Hutong (6404 3355)

And of course, if you know of any other fundraisers we may have missed, please share them below.
