Talking Pints: How to Enjoy a Working Weekend
Well, you could be responsible and take it easy tonight knowing you've got work tomorrow. Same goes for tomorrow night and the fact that we've got work on Sunday. And it's raining – all the more reason to break out The Sopranos box set and get an early night. But we know you're not going to, are you? Fair enough, let's see what's going on then, shall we?
First a quick look at what's been going on on the nightlife front since we last met.
Paul Mathew has gone. We bid him a fond adieu after he participated in the cover feature for the June issue of the Beijinger. Paul has helped us out many time's through the years: be it as a DJ, an interviewee, or a profiler. A solid bloke and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors. He did a nice exit interview with Beijing Boyce before he bounced, and you can check that out here.
Don't forget: DJ Zinc is dropping at Dada on June 21 – NOT June 5 as we mistakenly said in this month's issue of the Beijinger. Tut-tut.
Atmosphere in China World Summit Wing will host its third Air Atmosphere bash on June 29.
Great Leap Brewpub opens officially on June 15. Of course, you've been able to stop by and check it out for a couple of week's now – and if you haven't, you should. But next weekend they'll host a Grand Opening between 2 and 6pm.
The escalation in their new location seems to be coinciding with a scaling back at the original Gulou location:
"Out of respect for our hutong neighbors this summer, we've decided to close a little earlier at our original location. We will be open from 5pm to 10.30pm Tuesday to Thursday; 5pm to 11pm on Friday; 2pm to 11pm on Saturday; and 2pm to 10pm on Sunday."
Pencil July 12 in your diary for JamAfreeca. It's to be a reggae/dancehall/African Mashup at Yugong Yishan.
Hockey Bar opens up in Lido tonight (June 7). It's right next to to The Irish Volunteer.
Mini Bar held a celebratory opening soiree last night. Stop by and check it out in Dongsi Shitiao. Be careful not to miss it.
You could do way worse than heading over to Wudaokou tonight (June 7) to party with the original Syndicate crew at the Lush Oldskool Party. The impromptu blowout promises plenty of shenanigans. As the boss man over there, Josh Lally, says himself:
"With this being the 10th year of Lush’s existence, and leading up to the 10th Birthday celebration in October, we’re kicking it oldskool with a No Go Die set at Lush starting from around 7pm, and then dropping down to Pyro around 11pm to stir up the ghost of Zub with sick Drum & Bass sets from the legendary Syndicate. Even though The Syndicate needs no introduction, for those people who are in need of a dose of bass, won’t be disappointed to join us up, with the party promising to go late. With sponsorship from Duvel via Vedett at RMB 20 a bottle, RMB 15 vodka Red Bulls (of course, always with genuine and name brand alcohol), and RMB 100 epic cocktails – on top of our regular happy hour (we'll extend Pyro’s happy hour till late for the partygoers staying out late for the D'n'B beats), the lubrication should not only be ample, but easy on the wallet as well."
More ways to get in your boss's bad books tomorrow are available here.
However you spend it – on the sofa watching The Sopranos or locked in Lush – have a wonderful time. And happy Dragon Boat Festival.
