Experience Mexico at Chaoyang Park

When you think about it, Mexico couldn't seem much further away from China, both in terms of distance and culture. The Encuéntrate con México pavillion, located in Chaoyang Park, aims to bridge that gap with a lively, interactive exhibition showcasing the best of Mexico past and present.

With the strains of a real live mariachi band playing in the background, we took a stroll around the pavillion the other night. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Take a hot air balloon ride or surf a zip line through the power of the amazing Oculus Rift
  • Loads and loads of interactive touch screen displays, including a cool one allowing you to take a virtual picture at some of Mexico's top tourist sites and send it to friends via social media
  • "Vochol", a very unique piece of art featuring a Volkswagen Beetle covered with over 2 million traditional Huichol beads that took more than 9,000 hours to complete - think on that the next time you give up on a project after the first hour
  • A food truck serving up authentic Mexican cuisine
  • A very tempting gift shop filled with suprisingly reasonably priced handicrafts. We took a shine to the Huichol beaded items and the intricate silver jewellery

The pavillion is free to enter and is located near Chaoyang Park West Gate 4 and Solana. Find it there until November 11.
