Take Your Taste Buds on Vacation with SOLDOUT’s New Hawaiian Burger

When it comes to pizza and burger toppings, whether or not pineapple should be considered a viable option is a contentious topic.

But while “Hawaiian” burgers and pizzas might cause rifts in the food world, we here at the Beijinger don’t mind it one bit, which is why we were thrilled when burger joint SOLDOUT debuted a Hawaiian Burger, we had to give it a try.

First though, a little bit on SOLDOUT. This burger place quietly opened up late last year in SOHO Shangdu, bringing with them a nice variety of burgers – of the smash variety – fried chicken sandwiches, and, more interestingly, patty melts. An added bonus was their great combo prices, like RMB 44 for a cheeseburger with fries and a drink.

There are a number of good spots in the capital for a Hawaiian Burger, which traditionally consists of a burger patty topped with caramelized onions, cheese, teriyaki sauce, and a grilled slice of pineapple. Soldout sticks to this formula, adding on their signature burger sauce and opting for Swiss cheese to bring it all home.

Each bite you take there’s that hit of sweet pineapple backed up by charred beef. One complaint about the burger is it falls apart a bit too easy when taken out of the wrapper, but it doesn’t take away too much from the experience.

SOLDOUT has also upped their French fry game as of late, with the fries cut thinner and cooked to more of a crisp.

A Hawaiian Burger on its own will set you back RMB 36, while a combo with choice of soda is RMB 48. We’re not sure if the burger is a permanent fixture on the menu or a seasonal option, but either way, this is one burger you don’t want to pass up.
