Q MEX Menu Revamped: New Tacos, Burritos, Burgers & More
Since opening back in 2012, Q MEX has become a firm favorite among both foreigners and Chinese alike with their excellent menu, relaxed atmosphere and welcoming vibe. They've won multiple awards over the years, including, of course, the Juicy Burger Cup, which they have one twice, in 2017 and 2023.
Now in their 13th year, they've just opened a fifth branch in Wukesong, their first ever Haidian location, and have also completely revamped their menu, adding an array of new, and some old favorite, dishes. Now, let's take a dive into just what new offerings they've got…
First things first, we have to talk about the amazing new taco offerings on the menu; after all, you know how much we love tacos at the Beijinger. A standout new addition has to be the Carnitas Tacos (RMB 78), which you might remember as being one of Q MEX's exclusive offerings at previous Taco Fests. They feature slow-cooked pork simmered until tender and juicy and then topped with an avocado tomatillo dip and a sprinkling of cilantro and chopped onions, all nestled in your choice of a yellow corn or flour tortilla. We, for one, are so happy that you can now get these tacos all year round!
To go with the Carnitas Tacos, Q MEX also has some new Taco Combos up for grabs, allowing you to mix and match a few different tacos. There are four combos to choose from: the Carnivore Taco Combo (RMB 80), with steak, carnitas and chicken; the Chef's Special Taco Combo (RMB 78), with pulled beef, chicken and shrimp; El Clasico Taco Combo (RMB 78), with chicken, carnitas and pulled beef; and finally, the Surf & Turf Taco Combo (RMB 78), with steak, shrimp and fish.
Another new taco dish is the Birria Tacos (RMB 88), previously a favorite menu item at Q MEX Taqueria, and then a winter special at Q MEX, which has now been added to the permanent Q MEX menu thanks to popular demand. It sees slow-roasted pulled birria beef combined with chopped onions and cilantro and stuffed inside a homemade cheese crust tortilla slathered with birria broth and then grilled, all served with a rich chilli beef soup for dipping. Cheesy, meaty, juicy – these tacos truly are chef's kiss good.
The Birria Tacos aren't the only dish that's back by popular demand, though; two others are back as well! The first is the Cheese Fondue Burger (RMB 95), a burger with two Australian Angus beef patties, double cheese, jalapeños, mayonnaise and special burger sauce. Simple enough, but then it's cut in half and served in a pool of sizzling jalapeño cheese sauce, bacon bits and pico de gallo, which you can then dip the burger in for a bite of gooey, cheesy heaven.
The other dish is the Wet Burrito, their Classic Burrito with your choice of protein and topped with homemade queso fresco, pico de gallo, sliced lettuce, sour cream, red onions and cilantro all drenched in either red ahogada, green tomatillo or half-half sauce. You can choose from Pulled Beef (RMB 98), Sirloin Steak (RMB 98), Carnitas (RMB 85), Chicken (RMB 85) or Black Bean (RMB 80). Our personal recommendation is the carnitas; the pulled pork just pairs perfectly with the sauce and is so tender and succulent.
Speaking of burritos, they've also added two new variations to the menu, one is the San Diego Burrito, which has French fries, pico de gallo, black beans, green tomatillo sauce, cilantro, onions and then your choice of Pulled Beef (RMB 85), Sirloin Steak (RMB 85), Carnitas (RMB 78), Chicken (RMB 78) or Black Bean (RMB 70). The other new variation is the Chicharron Burrito, which is stuffed with jewel rice, beans, classic Mexican salsa, cheese, chipotle corn, lettuce, sour cream, tomatillo sauce, ahogada sauce, crispy chicken skin and your choice of Pulled Beef (RMB 85), Sirloin Steak (RMB 85), Carnitas (RMB 80), Chicken (RMB 80) or Black Bean (RMB 75).
Even more tasty editions include two new pasta dishes: Creamy Chipotle Chicken Pasta (RMB 78) and Creamy Chipotle Shrimp Pasta (RMB 80). Both see either grilled chicken or shrimp sautéed with chopped chipotle, onion, garlic, cream and parmesan cheese, finished with a dusting of powdered chipotle. The spiciness of the chipotle is balanced out by the cream, but be careful – it still packs a punch!
They've also got some new appetizers, like the delicate Shrimp Tostadas (RMB 58), which see sautéed shrimp, tomatillo, avocado, and queso fresco laid on a bed of shredded lettuce with a drizzle of chili oil and finished with pico de gallo; they look almost too good to eat! Then there is also the Jalapeño Garlic Wings (RMB 68) in which six chicken wings are smothered in Q MEX's homemade mixed chili and garlic sauce.
Lastly, for meat lovers, they've got the new Skirt Steak (RMB 198), which features char-grilled imported skirt steak topped with chimichurri sauce and served on a bed of Mexican fried rice with a side of roasted vegetables and pico de gallo. You can also enjoy it for half price on Thursdays as one of their weekly specials, because one thing on the menu that hasn't changed is their great daily deals. Mondays are still half-price burritos, Tuesdays are half-price pizza, Wednesdays are half-price nachos and Thursdays are half-price steaks and Habanero Chicken.
The new Q MEX menu is available at all five of their branches now, so get down there and enjoy some of these fresh dishes. You won't regret it!
