798 Coffee opens its first Sanlitun branch, O'Steak celebrates its 13th anniversary with a menu revamp, there's a wine dinner at Puzzles and Ibérico Madness at Modernista.

798 Coffee Comes to Sanlitun

798 Art District's official coffee brand, 798 Coffee, has branched out to Sanlitun for the first time, opening up in the embassy area on the same strip that's home to places such as Athena and Serve the People. The cozy little shop brings 798's iconic factory vibes to the space with stripped, grey walls and a minimalistic design. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow in plenty of natural light and come the warmer months, there is a small outdoor seating area to enjoy.

On the menu they've got a range of classic coffees, aptly named after various old factory codes such as the 718 Americano (RMB 22), 706 Café Latte (RMB 33) or 797 Coffee Mocha (RMB 38). They also have seasonal options, with two winter specials being the Crème Brûlée Latte (RMB 38) and Hot Chocolate (RMB 38), the latter of which comes topped with a marshmallow.

Aside from the café aspect, there is also a small shop area which sells 798 coffee merch and will periodically sell limited-edition collaborative works with renowned Chinese and international artists.

O'Steak Celebrates 13th Anniversary With Menu Revamp and Deal

This year marks French restaurant O'Steak's 13th in the capital, and to celebrate, they've done a complete menu revamp, adding some new dishes and upgrading others. Two personal favorites of ours are the Coq au Vin, which features chicken slow-cooked with French red wine so that it's super juicy and tender, paired with carrots, onions and other seasonal vegetables. The other is the Margret of Duck, which sees duck breast grilled until the skin is crispy, served with creamy mashed potato, in true French fashion, you can request how well-done you want the duck.

Other dishes to watch out for are the Pan-Seared French Cod, imported French silver cod paired with a fragrant lemon butter sauce. The Guillotine Mushroom, an open-faced sandwich topped with mushrooms and melted cheese on lightly toasted bread. And you can never go wrong with the Steak Wellington, beef steak wrapped in ham, foie gras, and truffles, encased in golden puff pastry.

Another update to the menu is that O'Steak is now doing weekend brunch menus with three options to choose from: Brunch Gourmand (RMB 88), Full Brunch (RMB 188) and Voracious Brunch (RMB 388), plus there is also a Children's Brunch (RMB 88) for those with little ones. All sets include coffee or tea, orange juice, a baguette, pastries, an egg dish and then additional dishes depend on the specific set. For example, the Voracious Brunch includes Kir Royal, Smoked Salmon and Blinis, a Parma Ham Platter and more. Along with the brunch menus, they've got Set Lunch Menus available from 11am to 3pm, where you can get a starter and main for RMB 88, or add on dessert for RMB 30.

Lastly, to go with the menu upgrade, they are also currently doing a special 13th Anniversary Set Menu for Two (RMB 398/set). It includes Mushroom Salad and Burgundy Style Escargot for starters, Coq au Vin and Boeuf Bourguignon for mains and Vanilla Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Profiteroles for desserts, plus two glasses of wine.
