First Glance: Bistrot B

Bistrot B is the first Western restaurant to open in the brand new (as in, only a week old) Rosewood Beijing at Hujialou (expect a couple more restaurants to open over the next few months). The high-ceilinged space has a sort of upmarket bistro feel, complemented by impressive open kitchens, all run by experienced chef Jarrod Verbiak (James Beard Foundation "Rising Star Chef of the Year" nominee and former protégée of Daniel Boulud).

The menu is mostly French-Mediterranean dishes, with some Chinese and Southeast Asian thrown in. Portions are big and clearly designed for sharing, so expect to pay RMB 60-160 for starters and RMB 160-230 for mains, with sandwiches and burgers coming in at about RMB 100. A definite hat tip for making an effort to include products from local producers on the menu, including vegetables from Ronking farm and goat's cheese from Le Fromager de Pekin.
