Fast Food Watch: Beijing KFC, Kung Fu Ice Dirtier Than Toilet Water

Someone’s getting fired at the Chongwenmen KFC. According to lab tests run by CCTV, the KFC branch’s ice cubes had a bacterial count 18 times higher than the national standard and 13 times higher than toilet water. Until the ice machines can be replaced, customers will be given a choice between ice from the machine or frozen toilet water in their Pepsi. Ok, that’s not true.

The facts are that the CCTV report has been shared over 129,000 times on Weibo and KFC is really sorry. They have disinfected the offending ice machine and issued an official apology. But they're not alone in the controversy.

Ice from a nearby McDonald’s and the Chinese chain Kung Fu were also tested and were also found to be hosting bacteria in levels well above national hygiene standards (although McDonald’s ice was not as bad as toilet water. Way to go!) which can cause dysentery and diarrhea. This is why we only drink Yanjing.

Will this stop you from getting iced drinks at KFC (or elsewhere?) Let us know in the Comments below.

McDonald's doesn't need bacteria in the ice to give people diarrhea. Their food does a good enough job of that already.
