OK so you're not going to Thailand or even some exotic China locale during the coming seven-day holiday – not to fear, there's stuff to do in the 'Jing, and in fact if you steer clear of the most obvious tourist destinations, you can actually feel like Beijing's a little less crowded during this time of year. After all, the millionaires have jetted off to the Maldives and the migrant population is off visit their families in the sticks, and god knows the Powers That Be are not going to let bad air ruin China's birthday party, so the factories are shut and the air's gonna be clear.
