2009 Feb 03 Silk Market Scuffle

Things got a little heated among the cramped aisles of the Silk Market (or as they prefer to call themselves - the Merchant's Bird's Nest) on Sunday morning as stall vendors and market management clashed over an order to shutter 7 stalls for 7 days as punishment for selling fake goods. At around 9am on Sunday, employees of the Silk Market's management committee gave official notice to seven stall holders that they would be closing their stalls as punishment for selling fake goods. Vendors however were unhappy with the order, questioning the validity of the management's evidence. The situation quickly escalated from a verbal dispute as "bao an" were called in to forcibly close the stalls, only to be met with continued resistance from stall owners. The cops from Jianguomen police station had to be called to calm the situation at 10am and the stalls were finally shuttered by noon.

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

What is meant by "fake goods"? I thought all of the clothes at the silk market were knock-offs.

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

It's called A 版 in Chinese, 高仿货。

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

Why only 7? They all sell fake stuff

After donning a Patriots cap the Dalai Lama decreed that “the fifth noble truth is this: In 2009, Tom Brady will make people suffer for the suffering he endured in 2008.”

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

Come on, I paid almost 15 bucks for this Patek Philippe, don't tell me it's FAKE!!?

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

A better title would have been:

7 Stall owners refuse to pay graft money to authorities.

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

This is a good PR by the Chinese! We close the 7 bad sheeps and the rest we can prove is real stuff! haha, like the silk market logo. So nobody can copy us.lol

Re: Silk Market Scuffle

Maybe they were fakes of the official fakes. you can't let things like this spiral out of control, there has to be a line drawn somewhere!
