Usher is in town this weekend - read our interview with the man here - and Beijing's gone just a little bit mad. The guys at Street Hustle, who are promoting this Sunday's gig at Wukesong Arena, have had bar owners creating Usher-themed cocktails. Or rather, themed on his song OMG. Last night in the super swanky environs of the penthouse of the Opposite House, Gung Ho! was launched. This involved some sponataneous and compulsory Haka dancing, the chance to paint one's own pizza box and the opportunity to listen to Gung Ho! supremos Jade and John wax lyrical about dreaming a dream, the efficacy of several types of flour and plucky World Cup underdogs New Zealand. "Enough of the revelry that one would expect from the brains behind student hangouts Lush and Pyro hurry up and tell me about the pizza" is what I'd be thinking at this point so here goes.

 Beijing's a noisy old place but over the din of the comings-and-goings of millions of people you can hear the sound of music. This is music being made right here and now in Beijing. Some's good, some's bad but it's happening and it's something for the city to take pride in. Beijing's becoming known for its music scene so we talked to people at the forefront of it. The only requirement that we had was that they weren't originally from Beijing. We've hardly stopped writing about it this past seven days, but George's, the latest project from former Q Bar manager George Zhou, has its official launch party tonight at 8.30pm. Zhou will be mixing drinks for tasting, so if you're into your drinks and liqueurs, go down and see what the master has got in store. Former Q Bar man George Zhou - voted "Bartender of the Year" by the Beijinger's readers in 2009 - is back with George's, his new cocktail bar. The official opening party is tomorrow night (June 25), but the bar's been doing business since last Saturday night, when we stopped by for a look. Just 20m round the Workers' Stadium from Chad Lager's Fubar, George's is a low-lit lounge featuring the martinis, mojitos and other cocktails that Zhou made his name with at Q Bar, as well as simpler options like Tsingtao at RMB 15 and basic mixed drinks from RMB 30. You know that care's going to be taken with your drinks here, so take a seat and enjoy yourself.
