2010 Jan 17 No Go for Gaga & Black Eyed Peas at Show of Peace?

The plot thickens. Last week we covered the Show of Peace press conference in Beijing featuring Jimmy Page and Michael Jackson’s former guitarist Orianthi. At the conference it was announced the Black Eyed Peas, Joey Kramer and Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Lady Gaga and 50 Cent had all confirmed appearances at the concert. China Music Radar is now claiming the management of Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas have denied any involvement with the Show of Peace or promoter Rick Garson.
The China Music Radar post, entitled “Show of Lies,” reads in party: “As of today, we have seen written confirmation from the Lady Gaga and BEP teams that they will not be coming. Lady Gaga’s people have never even heard of Rick Garson and the Show of Peace.”
Lady Gaga is touring Japan in April, and according to the both the HMV website and Wikipedia she has a show at the Yokohama Arena on April 17 – supposedly the night of the Show of Peace.
Even if the show never happens, the lead-up is certainly proving to be entertaining. More details as they come to hand.

New Show of Peace Date Tentative?

Following our breaking of the news that Beijing’s Show of Peace had been postponed last week, the Global Times managed to obtain some additional comment from organizer Rick Garson, published in today’s paper.
STOP PRESS: Show of Peace Postponed

Back in January we reported on the Show of Peace, announced with much fanfare (with the support of rock legend Jimmy Page), and supposedly scheduled for April 17 this year. Aside from a “clarification” issued by the organizers when theBeijinger.com and China Music Radar reported that one of the “confirmed” acts was actually playing in Japan the night of the concert, the promoters have been suspiciously quiet in recent weeks. So it was no surprise when we received a notice today stating the Show of Peace has been postponed until October.
Show of Peace Lineup “Clarified”

Earlier this week we linked to a post on China Music Radar about the lineup at the Show of Peace concert scheduled for April 17 next to the Bird’s Nest. The post claimed that the management teams of Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas, acts supposedly confirmed for the concert, had stated they would not be appearing at the show. We also pointed out that Lady Gaga is scheduled to play at Yokohama Arena in Japan on April 17. After several approaches to ZZYX Entertainment, the company of promoter Rick Garson, we received a clarification statement this morning regarding the concert lineup.
Jimmy Page in Beijing to Promote Show of Peace

Last week we reported on the Show of Peace concert scheduled for April 17, and expressed doubts about whether an event featuring so many high-profile international acts would be allowed to go ahead – in the Bird’s Nest of all places. It seems the organizers at least are firmly convinced it’s going to happen, and they brought former Led Zeppelin guitarist and all round legend Jimmy Page to Beijing for a press conference to prove it.
Dylan, Page & (ahem) Timberlake to Play Beijing in 2010 (Maybe)

We’re all acquainted with Beijing’s fantastic local music scene, just as we’re all aware of the myriad problems faced by international acts attempting to tour China. Which is why I’m frankly dubious about the “Show of Peace Concert” supposedly coming our way in April, featuring former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Ditto the announcement yesterday that Bob Dylan will be gracing our shores in early April.
