2010 Sep 22 Beijing Gets New Apple Store & the iPhone 4 this Saturday!

Last week we blogged about the launch of the iPad and this weekend the much anticipated iPhone4 hits stores in mainland China. Expect long lines and big crowds buying on the release date this Saturday, September 25. To add to the buzz, Beijing has a whole new Apple Store opening the same day in Xidan’s Joy City.
The iPhone will start at 4,999 RMB for the 16GB model and 5,999 RMB for the 32GB.
China Unicom will also be carrying the phone which can be purchased with a two year contract. Prices will depend on the specific plans and can be seen on their website and translated website. The phone (with plan) can be preordered on the website as well.
As blogged in the Wall Street Journal yesterday this launch marks the quickest turnaround time between a US Apple release date and its subsequent China market release. This iPhone comes to China a mere three months after coming out in the US, a drastic change from the original iPhone which was never officially launched here, and the iPhone 3G which was released a whopping two years and four months after its US counterpart!
For those who have already grabbed an iPhone4 from the grey market, a new iPhone5 is already hitting the Chinese market, via the internet. As blogged by Beijing Daze this hot item promises “A 4G phone, slim profile, [it]can cook breakfast, open a bottle of wine and even cook the perfect pizza.”
Beijing’s new Apple Store opens at 8am this Saturday (September 25) and is located at B1, B2 & F1, Joy City, 131 North Xidan Avenue, Xidan District. Usual hours will be: 10am-10pm, Mon-Fri; 9.30am-10pm, Sat-Sun.

The moment Apple fans have been waiting for has finally arrived! After making its debut last March in the US, the iPad is set to officially reach China.
The Hong Kong-Mainland iPhone Border Tax
iPhones in China have been plagued by sell outs, scalpers, and censored apps. Just when it seems like it can’t get any worse reports are circulating that Chinese customs are levying duties on iPhones brought into the mainland via the Hong Kong border crossings.
Wi-Fi iPhones Finally Arrive in China
A few weeks ago we reported on speculation that Wi-Fi enabled iPhones would soon be officially hitting the mainland Chinese market. As of today it seems they have finally arrived.Tired of Waiting for iPad? Don’t Fret, aPad is Here!

Watch out Apple. The iPad knockoffs keep rolling out in China, and this time they’re not afraid to hide it. With the name aPad, the makers know exactly what they’re doing (remember when the Great Long Brother Industrial Co., makers of the P88, tried to sue Apple for allegedly stealing the “iPad” concept?). Unlike most Chinese clones of Apple products, the aPad may actually be worthwhile, especially given the iPad still hasn’t been officially released in mainland China. Not that we condone the purchase of knock-offs.
When Will the iPad – or P88 Knock-off – Hit China?
Last week Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad in San Francisco, described as a device designed to go “between [consumers’] mobile phones and laptop computers.” The iPad is set to hit US stores in late March, and last Friday [January 29] The Wall Street Journal carried an article speculating whether the iPad will be concurrently released in China – unlike long-delayed earlier Apple products like the iPhone.

Ironically, I couldnt get an iphone in Canada. Everywhere in Vancouver the Iphone is sold out with stores only receiving 3 or 4 phones per week! Many stores started wait lists, but stopped after reaching 200 names per store!
