Kro's Komeback

Kro’s Nest, a Beijing dining institution since 2006 and winner of The Beijinger’s 7th Annual Reader Restaurant Award for “Outstanding Pizza,” has been news since this spring over the legal battle between partner’s Olaf Kristoffer – “Kro” – and Yuan Jie. Kro was ousted from the Kro’s Nest restaurants he helped found, and there were even reports of an assault on Kro, not to mention police involvement and other drama.

Now, Kro is making a comeback. He is opening a new Kro’s Nest on Xiaoyun Lu at San Yuan Qiao, slated to open in late November. This large space will feature a big restaurant with a bar area up front opening later hours with space to host live music and a DJ booth. Oh yeah, don’t forget the big tree sitting in the middle of the restaurant – they couldn’t bear to cut it down.

The new Kro’s Nest is bustling with new ideas and plans, according to marketing manager Will Bernholz, although a specific opening date has yet to be determined. This includes Kro’s innovative “nü-pizza” items, a charity salad bar, weekend DJ parties, great drinks deals, wings, and homemade curly fries. On the philanthropic side, they will start a "Kro's Gives Back" initiative which will raise money for Chinese community charities and support positive business practices among expatriate and Chinese businesses alike.

Kudo’s to Kro for coming back kickin’ and ready to rock. Stay posted for more updates.

I think we should all take a minute to raise a glass, perhaps sacrifce a small child for Kro, the brave, tatooed western pioneer who made it all the way to the distant east with a prized pizza recipe passed down from probably at least one generation, and introduced it - nay, gifted it, to the deprived natives of a land still clinging to 4000 years of culinary drudgery - they eat chicken feet for pete's sake! - and then what do you know? They only go and steal it for themselves!

Am I the only sane person in Beijing who remembers that the pizzas were pretty pathetic at Kro's Nest before our beloved all-American folk hero was so harshly screwed over by those nasty natives?

personally, if i were Kro i'd ditch the "Kro's Nest" brand entirely and go for a new one -- like

Kro's Feat
As The Kro Pies
(ok maybe not that last one)

Kro's Komeback is pretty good

Go Kro!

Down with Yuan Jie, anyone who supports the restaurant he stole from Olaf is supporting a crook.

Irish coffee, and Irish car bomb
A fat drunk jew starts singing this song
I take a closer look and the fat guy is me
So I buy him a shot, and he buys me back three

Congratulations to Kro for having the balls to fight for intellectual property protection in a Chinese court.

Make mine a large.

Kudos to Kro.
