2011 Mar 31 It's Confirmed! Avril Lavigne, Ladytron, Hot Hot Heat, Editors, Juliette Lewis to play Beijing

So this is really happening. We've heard a lot rumors about the Music Valley International Music Festival (former known as Pinggu Music Festival) and all of them were confirmed true yesterday. Ladytron? Yes. Hot Hot Heat? Yes. Editors, Little Boots, KT Tunstall, Juliette Lewis? Yes,yes, yes, yes!

While Midi and Strawberry Music Festival are still tossing between underground and mainstream, struggling with government approvals from time to time, Live Nation China, organizer of the Music Valley Music festival got it all sorted out.
Yesterday, they held a press conference (possibly the biggest press conference of a music festival in China) in the theater at China Millennium Monument. There were officials from the Ministry of Culture among the attendees while officials from Pinggu District came to announce their cooperation with the organizers and a plan to build the Music Valley which will cost RMB 15 billion (and take the next five to ten years.) The organizers confirmed the lineup and Paul Wong – guitarist of the biggest rock band in Hong Kong history, Beyond – was there to play a song he wrote for the festival.

It seems that this is the first festival to go for the populist vote but questions remain. How far can they go? How will Chinese people react to these acts when they can only say "I've heard that they're popular in Western countries?" With big investment and support from the government, will rock & roll soon become nothing more than a slogan on TV in China as well?
No matter what the answers are, there will be a festival from April 30 to May 1 in Pinggu District on the far east side of the city at Yuyang International Ski Resort.
Here's the lineup so far:
Avril Lavigne, Ladytron, Hot Hot Heat, Editors, Juliette Lewis, Little Boots, KT Tunstall, Rooney, Negative, Paul Wong, Free the Birds, F.I.R, Shenhong, Huang Xiaohu, Ligaoyang & Band, Jiang Xin and Huang Shujun.

Music Valley Music Festival - Full Lineup

If the shepherds quarrel, the wolf has a winning game. Apparently, two music festivals is not enough for the May holiday.
And as Midi and Strawberry's music festival fight gets more and more intense, a third party sneaks in as well - Music Valley Music Festival (tickets at here). Taking place at Beijing Yuyang International Ski Resort, it goes on for only two days from April 30 to May 1 and has only two stages, but their lineup is not any less competitive than the other two festivals:Head of the Queue: Hanggai Music Festival 2012

Mongolian folk-rock doyens Hanggai have developed a cult following since their inception back in 2004, and their first foray into assembling an international lineup of multi-cultural folk acts proved a big success last summer. Now it’s time for that tricky second outing.
Weekend Live Music Roundup: Battle Of The Bands, Fun Music Festival

It’s too bad that the Beijing Jazz Festival which was scheduled for this weekend got postponed to an undetermined date. To be frank, I am a little overdosed on music festivals, but those cool breezes are bringing the message that there’s not much time left for outdoor activities to remain fun, and bearable. So, Fun Music Festival there is. Beside Beijing’s music festival regulars like Re-tros (Friday), DH & Hellcats (Friday), and Hedgehog (Sunday), there will also be Taiwan’s hit hip-hop group Hot Dog (Friday), Canadian alternative rockers Your Favorite Enemies (Saturday), indie princess Zhang Xuan (Sunday) and more Chinese and international talents.
Weekend Live Music Roundup: Second Hand Rose, Metal Feast

No matter if you like their teasing Chinese country-rock or not, Second Hand Rose is always fun to watch. Most people would agree that they are not a normal band, hence they don't release an album like a band normally would. The launch of their new album, Yuejing (乐经) has been going on for months. They decided to release only one song from the album each month. After song launches in Tianjin and Shanghai, they are finally revealing the fourth song in Beijing on Sunday at Mako Live House. The song holds the same name as front man Liang Long's ongoing art exhibition in Caochangdi, Chuanmen (Drop Around).
Weekend Live Music Roundup: Eels on Monday, Suede "Coming In August”

Piao.com has just announced that Britpop’s founding fathers, Suede, will play in Beijing on August 7, following by another concert in Shanghai on August 9. As frequent visitors to China over the years – the group played Beijing together in 2003, while frontman Brett Anderson has since returned for solo gigs – the band shouldn’t have too many troubles with getting permission to play, although neither Chinese date on Suede’s world tour has been confirmed on the band’s official site yet …
