2011 May 10 Sanlitun Apple Store Violence Resolved
The Apple drama seems to be settling down for now, blogged by Agenda's Adeline Wang:
According to Sina Technology Times, a fight that broke out at the Sanlitun Apple Store around 3pm on May 7 has been settled. The violence occurred as Apple fans gathered excitedly in a long queue outside the store to wait for the iPad 2 launch.
As a result, Apple Store employees were forced to manage a chaotic crowd of eager customers all day, many of whom included product scalpers, which unfortunately culminated into an assistant getting into a fight with a young Chinese male customer. Chaoyang police are not pursuing charges against the offending Apple Store employee, but have charged him RMB 20,000 to cover the victim’s hospital fees.

Hi-Tech Tombstone: QR Codes on Graves Available in China

Sometimes, everything you want to say about your deceased loved one just won't fit on a tombstone.
That's why several companies in the US began adding QR codes to headstones in 2011, allowing people to use their smartphones to access to a memorial page with photos, biography and messages from family members. Reports are out just in time for Qingming Jie (Tomb Sweeping Festival) that this service is now being made available in Shenyang and could be coming soon to Beijing.

good going! In my hometown a rape victim who lost all of her fingers on both hands only got 5000 rubles (it's approx. 1100 RMB), so good for him

Re: Sanlitun Apple Store Violence Resolved
wtf? 20,000 rmb? I saw pics of this guys injuries, and lemme tell you: he didn't spend 20,000. I hope the perpetraitor fights these trumped up numbers.
I don't advocate violence, and it was totally unnecessary to do what he did, but c'mon now, 20K is too much.

Re: Sanlitun Apple Store Violence Resolved
Yes, but he was a Laowei, so obviously he can afford it!
20,000 RMB means nothing to a rich yellow-haired long nose. He probably spent more than that on his lunch...

Re: Sanlitun Apple Store Violence Resolved
That's some fucking bullshit right there.
I say we set up a fund to help this poor guy pay this bullshit fine.
I absolutely guarantee you the Chinese guy started the fight, probably by talking about this guy's mother's cunt.
Some drunk Chinese asshole crashes his car into another and gets a 2,000 rmb fine, this guy beats up a greedy selfish cock sucker and gets dinged 20,000?
Obvious racism.

Bullsh1t,obvious bullsh1t.
And still no pics of the actual incident?
Am I expected to believe none of these people mobbing the store like zombies had an Apple product with a camera?
Even Chinese farmers have camera phones.

Re: Sanlitun Apple Store Violence Resolved
I have little interest in iPads, almost as little in this incident, but I have to ask, what's up with all the racism on the threads about this? Jeremy 29, for instance, maybe it's time to 回国, don't you think? I think Beijing can do without Chinese-hating expats, which is what you seem to be.
I have to say, I think that if you assault someone then you do pretty well to walk away from it with a fine, even a large one, rather than with a criminal record. Yes, no doubt the fine was more than the costs, but for all those saying that this supposedly "harsh" treatment was because he was a foreigner, I would contend that in fact it was more lenient treatment than had he been Chinese, where there would very likely have been some kind of custodial sentence involved.
And as for "Herojuana", please, grow up and do not make this "poor guy" out to be some kind of hero. You say you are "absolutely sure" that the Chinese guy started the fight. Why? Because you were there, or because you're also a racist? And let's get something straight. If person 1 insults someone's mother and person 2 hits them, who's "started the fight"? It's person 2.
I have to say people like you make me embarassed to be a foreigner in Beijing.

The only pic of the guy is at a completely separate event?...and he's the manager of the store?
Well look at that, everyone's standing!
So informal.
Oh Apple
, you sweep me off my feet with your forward thinking and casual (yet professional!) attitude to the workplace...
But surely your store manager is missing his frappuccino?? and there is a distinct lack of pictures of Einstein, Gandhi or any other of the great minds you've baselessly associated with your products over the years.
In future I suggest carpeting your stores with astroturf, and piping your office emissions directly into the mesosphere!
Brilliant!
Throw some stuff in there about feeding hungry [insert racial/ethnic minority here] children and you're back on track.
