Ravishing Ravioli in Wudaokou

You’ll probably think what I thought when I passed Eatalia the first time: “Another crappy Wudaokou restaurant hoping to cheat me out of a few kuai before shutting down.” But then the rumors started circulating: a family operation, run by real Italians! Handmade ravioli! Imported ingredients!

The rumors are all true, folks. Go get your butts in those seats. Owner Mario Zaccagnini hails from Rome and is passionate about getting things right. He sources key ingredients straight from “The Boot,” and makes the dough fresh by hand every day. The pizzas are done quite well, but it was the ravioli (RMB 21-63) that made me crave a return visit. Dough, fillings and sauce (particularly the creamy tomato) all good. Portions are decent enough, especially considering the quality of the ingredients. If you’re going with friends, consider ordering a whole pizza with a variety of toppings. The bar is stocked with Italian offerings like Sambuca Vaccari, amaretto and limoncello – some of which make a cameo appearance in the desserts.

Standout dishes: Speck and taleggio ravioli, salsiccia pizza
