The Morning After The Night Before: Rain Coverage

I'm sure that you've all made it home and back to work by now. If you stayed at work, it was probably better than walking or waiting the longest time ever for a taxi. Anyway, that was some rain yesterday evening, wasn't it? Here are some photos and video of what it did to our city. If you want even more photos, take a look here, here, here and, well, everywhere. There are gutters, I guess they just weren't designed for this.

My first year teaching in Guizhou one of the students (a little boy) was sucked into a gutter during a downpour like this and drowned.

I got the impression it wasn't the most unusual occurrence.

Still, if it rained this heavily in Ireland the whole country would probably shut down for a week.

I've always wondered why it is that certain parts of Beijing flood pretty much instantly the minute that there's a heavy rainfall. The drains seem to overflow within minutes. First time I've been glad of needing to pull a late night at work ...

Why aren't there any gutters?
