Write On: Final Week of the Beijinger's Six-Word Writing Competition!

Last week we launched our first-ever writing contest, asking you to describe your Beijing in six words. The entries so far have been of a refreshingly high standard. However, we know that you've all got a little more left in the literary tank. You've got until 9am on Thursday, February 16 to tell us your tiny stories.

You can enter as many times as you like. The only rules are that each of your entries must be six words long – and that all of the words must be in English. Send them to sixwords@thebeijinger.com.

If you enter, you stand a chance to win prizes from us and our friends at The Bookworm International Literary Festival (BLF).

  • First Prize: A ticket to a BLF writing workshop of your choice plus two invites to the BLF VIP cocktail party
  • Second Prize: Two tickets to "SLAM!" featuring Luka Lesson & Tim Clare (9pm on Saturday, March 17 at 2 Kolegas)
  • Third Prize: Two tickets to the Beijinger's "Pop-Up Magazine" event (8pm on Friday, March 16 at The Bookworm)

To enter the competition, just send the six words that describe your Beijing to sixwords@thebeijinger.com. The closing date for entries is 9am, Thursday, February 16. The finalists will be printed in the March issue of the Beijinger, after which we'll bring it to a public vote on the blog and declare a winner.

In addition, we're collaborating with the BLF to make your six-word Beijing story part of their "Writing On The Wall" display. For the duration of the festival, The Bookworm will be turning their wall (by the staircase) into a display space for this Six-Word Story competition. Select stories from this contest will be showcased; pens and Post-its will be available for anybody who wants to add their own story to the collage.
