Share, Create and Collaborate: Beijing Creatives

If you have any interest in art, fashion or design, or are simply in search of some mid-week inspiration, check out Beijing Creatives, a new group that aims to establish a forum for creative people to “share, create and collaborate.” Their first-ever meeting takes place tomorrow, May 30 at Great Leap Brewing from 7.30-9.30pm.

The founder, photographer Stefen Chow, tells us: “At this moment, it is still very small-scale, but we intend to keep the session informal and interesting for all the participants involved.” According to Design-China.org, he has recruited four speakers who will have ten minutes each to discuss their backgrounds and projects, and then take questions from the audience. The guests include Shan Design Studio (Chinese designers on the cutting-edge of conceptual and multi-disciplinary practice), Mark Leong (a professional photographer whose pictures have appeared in Newsweek, Times, the New York Times, the New Yorker and the National Geographic), Phillip Cerny (a creative director involved in BMW car ads and more) and Ruxi (a sustainable couture brand committed to preserving cultural heritage).

As Chow writes on his LinkedIn, “Forums and Facebook are great. But meeting in person and listening to them is better! … save your stomach for loads of hand crafted [sic] beer and presentations by established professionals from diverse, creative fields.”

Getting annoyed at finding out that things are happening (or not happening) at the last minute in Beijing is the same as being irked when you hear Kenny G in a department store. It's just the way it is. The good news in this case is that there is an event taking place. More often than not the news is that an event has been cancelled.

One thing I dislike about things here is this "last minute" type stuff. Doesn't anyone in this town use a daytimer?
