First Glance: C Pearl, Xinyuan Jie

Oyster enthusiasts will be happy to hear of a new option to slurp down the sought-after mollusks, newly-opened C Pearl Oyster Dining on Xinyuan Jie, just north of the Sanlitun embassy district.

The huge three story space includes an open oyster bar, restaurant-style seating, a third-floor lounge area, and a range of private and semi-private rooms. Decor is the sort of post-industrial converted factory that seems so popular right now.

On to the food. The menu includes more than 15 types of oysters from around the world, running from RMB 38-99 per oyster. Elsewhere, it runs to sharing platters (RMB 138-399), starters (RMB 69-158) and sizeable main courses (RMB 167-299). My instinct tells me this will be more of a place you come to share a few plates along with a platter of oysters, rather than for a sit down dinner. Among the dishes we tried, herb-spiced french fries with cheese sauce and a dish of plump Canadian mussels were our favorites.

The wine list is extensive, with a few interesting bottles, starting from RMB 299 and going up to around RMB 1,000.

They currently have a couple of sweet deals during the soft opening period.

1. Buy two oysters, get one free
2. Add C Pearl on WeChat and get a free Gillardeau oyster (one of France's premier oyster varieties)
