Third Ring Road APEC Sniper Story a Hoax: Chinese Media

Your laundry is safe: a reported notice that sharpshooters and snipers from Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) participants countries would be posted on rooftops lining the Third Ring Road is a hoax, according to Chinese media.

A blurry photo of a purported notice advising that "from November 6-13 Beijing is welcoming a world meeting, and tall buildings near the Third Ring Road will have sharpshooters from various various nations on them; please do not arbitrarily open windows and hang clothes, to avoid mistaken shootings by the sharpshooters, causing injury and death; take necessary safety precautions." STORY: Big Changes Afoot for APEC

The note is dated November 2 and signed by the "duty office," supposedly from China Youth University for Political Sciences (中国青年政治学院), which is listed as having 25 West Third Ring Road North as its address.

However, Chinese media rubbished the story, stating that the school had issued no such order, and that with the actual APEC meeting taking place in distant Huairou County, the report should be regarded as false. People were also advised not to believe or spread rumors.

I'd still hang my laundry indoors for the next week or so.
