Burning Issue: Over 700 Venues Cited in First Week of Smoking Ban

Over 700 Beijing venues were cited for violations during the first week of Beijing's ban on smoking, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

More than 300 cases of smoking indoors were reported by citizens in Chaoyang District during that period.

Office buildings, restaurants, and entertainment venues were the three types of places that were the leading sites in Beijing for indoor smoking issues.

The city claims it has fewer than 1,000 inspectors to handle a city of 21.5 million people with four million smokers, Xinhua said.
