17 Beijing Eateries Named to Top 101 in Asia List

Beijing is now the top culinary destination in China outside of Hong Kong and the second best in Asia, if the latest rankings compiled by The Daily Meal are to be believed.

In their third annual Top 101 Restaurants in Asia list, The Daily Meal includes more restaurants from Beijing (17) than any other city except Hong Kong (with 20).

Capital partisans can gloat that culinary bragging rights are now firmly in Beijing's hands, as our uppity city to the south, Shanghai, has but a mere seven restaurants on the list.

Without further ado, here's the 17 Beijing restaurants that made the Top 101:

Consider this your dining agenda for the next seven days. If you haven't been, check out all of these -- not a dud in the bunch. You may extend that tour by visiting two Beijing branches of chains that made the list for their hometown branches: ramen masters Ippudo (which won for their Tokyo branch), with a Beijing outpost in the Kerry Center; and Din Tai Fung (whose original Taipei branch made the list at #2), and which has multiple outlets in Beijing.

Beijing's rise this year is a dramatic increase from seven entries on last year's list: Three Guizhou Men (#76), My Humble House (#67), Okra (#65), Green T House (#56), TRB (#37), Duck de Chine (#23), and Dali Courtyard (#17). It's also a big jump for Migas, almost breaking the top 10 and vaulting ahead of Beijinger reader favorite TRB, and a dramatic debut for newcomer Bistrot B.

Hangzhou was represented on the list with one restaurant; meanwhile Hong Kong (20), Macau (4), Taipei (3) and Taichung (1) rounded out the other areas of Greater China.
