Nali Newbie Tafelspitz Closes, but Austrian Eatery’s Owners Fight to Reopen Soon

This winter hasn’t been easy for Sanlitun, considering the closures of longstanding venues, terrorist threats that left the neighborhood rife with police, and more. Now, yet another blow has been dealt to its dining scene. New swanky Austrian eatery Tafelspitz has closed in Nali Patio, though the owners are fighting to reopen there or in another location shortly.

The prompt shuttering comes as a shock, considering Tafelspitz only opened in June 2015, immediately impressing patrons with its seasonal delicacies and top tier wines. Advising manager Walter Lampersberger posted this on WeChat:

“Dear friend of Tafelspitz this Is a information (sic) about our restaurant. Reopening details will follow. We have due to legal reasons, closed until further notice. We will be there for you soon again. Wir haben aufgrund von rechtlichen Gründen bis auf weiteres geschlossen. Wir sind bald wieder für Sie da.我们由于法律上的原因,关闭,直至另行通知。我们希望不久将在那里等你。”

Lampersberger later told the Beijinger that he hopes to reopen “the same or another” location very soon, adding:“We will see how the legal things are going on.”
