American Airlines from Chicago for Less than USD 500, Beijing Cheap in June, Hainan Airlines to Offer Calgary Flights

It's always during times of peak travel that there is the least travel news, but here are some items for what is promising to be an inexpensive spring shoulder season, thanks to continued low fuel prices.

According to Thrifty Traveler, American Airlines is offering roundtrip Chicago to Beijing fares for less than USD 500 via Priceline. I always find these fares somewhat unbelievable, as I can rarely reproduce them via my own searches, which I expect is due to extremely limited availability. However, Beijing airfares to US cities in March are regularly turning up in the neighborhood of USD 600 roundtrip, so keep an eye on out for good prices during one of the year's least popular travel times.

Beijing made paragon of journalism The Daily Mail's list of cheapest places to visit by month, in this case for June. We're skeptical about this list as it doesn't make sense that Melbourne, a major city in what is the world's hottest travel destination this year, Australia, could possibly be so inexpensive as to make it the choice for January. In any case, hooray Beijing! And tell your friends to come in June.

Hainan Airlines, which has added an extraordinary number of routes over the last 12 months, will begin flying non-stop from Beijing to Calgary, Canada, starting at the end of June.

'Til Tuesday, especially as people begin heading out of town for the holiday, one road flat safe.
