Spice it Up: Indian Food Festival at JW Marriott Beijing Thru April 10

According to Chinese traditional solar terms, spring is the best time to eat spicy food. So I take JW Marriott's Indian Food Festival, running through April 10, as a cosmic answer to nature’s counsel.

The buffet, located on the ground floor of the hotel, includes kebabs, biryani, rice, paneers, and curries. The chicken and coconut paste masala served on a banana leaf was full of flavor and delivered a hefty kick. For those who can't handle their spice, the buffet also features dim sum and Japanese-style foods.

But I would suggest you skip those and head for these highlights instead: pork vindaloo, chicken xacutti, and Goan fish curry made by guest Chef Selester Fernandes.

If the curry leaves you parched, guest mixologist Sushant is on hand to whip up 10 infused Indian cocktails.

We went for the chili margarita, which came with a little kick courtesy of the red chili powder around the rim, and the cinnamon apple smash, which, with its sliced apple and cinnamon powder, was a sweet and refreshing accompaniment to the curries.

Brunch costs RMB 288 (Monday to Saturday); or RMB 428 per person with free-flow beer and house wine, or RMB 498 with free-flow of Champagne. Dinner costs RMB 368 (Monday to Thursday) or RMB 428 (Friday to Saturday). The buffet can be found at Asia Bistro, on the ground floor of the JW Marriot Hotel.
