Back on the Block: Popular Shuangjing Event Returns May 21

When it comes to Shuangjing, you may have mixed feelings about the neighborhood. Over the years, its neatly clustered buildings have transformed the area into somewhat of residential enclave. Many would agree that Shuangjing is a pleasant place to live; but what about as a place to simply hangout or down a few beers? I can hear you saying: ahh, aside from my friends’ house parties or perhaps fuliguangchuang (Viva Plaza), there’s not much else to do in the area. Yes, I concede, there’s a certain lacking “oomph” that keeps the neighborhood from breaking out; but in fairness, Shuangjing’s bars, restaurants, and other attractions are somewhat underappreciated when compared those situated in more glitzy areas.

I believe Shuangjing deserves to be reexamined – especially by those that live there. And on Saturday, May 21, you’ll have the opportunity to do just that, as the city’s most prominent community-based party returns. The Shuangjing Block Party, held in two weeks' time, will transform the already vibrant 22 Art Street at the north end of Pingod into a foodie paradise. Entering its fourth consecutive year, expect the hottest block party yet, as the food, drink, and music all get taken up a notch. You’d be well advised to show up on an empty stomach.
