EAT: Cocktail Paired Brunch with TRB Bites and Janes and Hooch, New Lunch Sets at Beyond Yakitori

Four days left of the holiday: what are you going to do with yourself? This being a dining column and all, it probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise that we're going to suggest you spend it eating. And of course, nothing says "holiday mode" like a long, lazy brunch. Luckily for you, we've got a few options, old and new.

Firstly, until October 7, both TRB and TRB Bites are offering brunch every day from 11.30am-3.30pm, rather than just at the weekend. Both restaurants offer choose-your-own brunch menus that allow you to pick your dishes from several different "sections" e.g. eggs, main courses etc, with Bites starting from RMB 198 (three courses) and TRB starting from RMB 328 (five courses).

Over Sanlitun way, The Big Smoke have recently revamped their brunch menu. Old favorites such as the poached egg with smoked salmon and orange Hollandaise, the sizable Bloody Caesars, and the food coma-inducing baked potato with smoked pork, bacon and sour cream still lead the menu, and they have added a new set brunch option (RMB 160), which includes a main course (seriously, get that baked potato), side dish, coffee, and Big Smoke brunch cocktail.

If you're in the market for more of an "occasion" brunch, then keep Sunday, October 9 open, when TRB Bites are set to team up with cocktail bar Janes and Hooch for a cocktail paired brunch, held at TRB's Copper event space. Priced at RMB 428 per person (a steal if you ask us), the five-course brunch will feature dishes from TRB Bites head chef Sebastian Shafer paired with innovative cocktails from Janes and Hooch. As they say, "a match made in boozy heaven." TRB Bites have previously teamed up with Great Leap brewing to celebrate the launch of the beer brand's Leaping the Dog Barley Champagne

Finally, if you're more of a luncher than a bruncher, or are looking for somewhere new for a power lunch in the Sanlitun area then you might want to stop by Topwin Center-based Japanese eatery Beyond Yakitori, who have just launched a series of lunch sets. Starting from RMB 85, the sets include a salad, a selection of yakitori skewers, seasoned rice, and miso soup. There is also the option to forgo the skewers in favor of mushroom-pork yaki udon noodles (also RMB 85). Further fuel for our theory that the Topwin Center is the best thing to happen to the Sanlitun dining scene over the past few years.
