Gung Ho's Lido Store to be Shuttered Tuesday, But Other Branches to Remain

Following the classic tale of a Beijing landlord demanding an unreasonable rent increase, Beijinger pizza favorite and two-time winner of our Pizza Cup, Gung Ho, have decided to close their Lido store next week.

Marketing Manager Rich Akers told the Beijinger that the team do not currently have a new space to fill the void in the Lido area but that they are in the process of looking. Their other three stores – Sanlitun, Shuangjing, and deep down south next to Ikea in Xihongmen – will remain open.

The Lido branch was opened in 2011 and was remodeled just last year by Coro Urdaneta, the designer behind Mosto Group.

Although this news will leave a pizza-shaped hole in many a Lido customers' stomach, those stationed out in Beijing's northeast may want to check third-party delivery services such as Baidu Waimai and ele.me that Gung Ho are now working with  though neither will cover the entire Lido footprint previously serviced by Gung Ho's Go! Go! Go! guys.

But not to worry too much, our 2015 winner of the Best Pizza in Beijing isn't going anywhere; in fact, you can come sample their wares by the slice at this weekend's Pizza Fest (Saturday and Sunday at Wangjing Soho). Bring the kids too as they'll be doing kids pizza-making classes all day, both days.

And for those of you who haven't ordered in a while, you'll want to check out their new fall menu, which features some interesting Kiwi-centric tastes such as a New Zealand venison pizza and mini sausage rolls. Read more about those here.
