A Brickening Survivor, Tiny Taproom Goes Bigger with Izakaya and Café

Remember Tiny Taproom, which was formerly at Xinyuanjie near Great Leap Brewing #45 with beers from Wuhan Bubble Lab? Well, they survived the Great Brickening and have relocated to the ground floor of Class Hotel next to Shang Building, where the new Bottega and Q Mex Taqueria are.

The new Tiny is no longer tiny, with a bar, an izakaya, and a café called Berry Beans. Walking in, you realize it is now at least twice the size of their former location. The bar on the left houses fridges and a few taps, surrounded by a few stools and a Japanese-style izakaya. Indeed, it's become a full-fledged restaurant and bar, complete with several tables and a semi-private room. You'll find the atmosphere comfortable and familiar, complete with its own clean and tidy bathroom in the back.

There are nine beers on tap (RMB 40-60): the Bohemian pilsner, New England IPA, Bubble IPA, double IPA, Golden Porter, Scotch Ale, vanilla imperial stout, Mosaic single hop IPA, and a wheat. Unfortunately for us (but a good sign for their business), half the beers were out of stock during our visit due to the National Holiday. We tried the vanilla imperial stout, which had a strong vanilla flavor and a hefty 9.6 percent ABV. We also explored their cocktails, but found the whiskey sour (RMB 45) to be way too sour. The izakaya menu is dazzling with over two dozen chuan’r varieties, including pork, chicken, vegetables, and fish.

The chuan’r or teriyaki live up to the establishment's name – they certainly are tiny, but they pack a flavorful punch. We especially enjoyed the chicken liver and pork belly with okra. With all this space to spread out, you may not get as much attention from the staff as at the previous location, so you'll have to be patient while the wait staff finishes chatting with regulars before they'll come serve you your beers. We hope they iron out the wrinkles and stock plenty of beers for the thirsty crowds who are sure to wander through.
