Stuff Yourself for a Cause at BJ Foodies' Charity Restaurant Crawl at China World Mall, Nov 11-12

The philanthropic foodie group BJ Foodies has been running events in Beijing for years now, but this weekend (Nov 11-12) they are shaking it up with their first-ever restaurant crawl.

If you have had the good fortune to attend one of BJ Foodies' semi-regular dining events in the past, then you'll know that they usually take the form of a sit-down dinner at a restaurant, with a set menu that includes a drink. This time, however, they have teamed up with four different restaurants in China World Mall – Little Susu, Migas Mercado, Hana by Hatsune, and F Bistronome – to put together a restaurant crawl.

Priced at RMB 380 (real value RMB 690) per person, the crawl includes a dish and an alcoholic drink at each restaurant:

  • Little Susu: Pan-fried chicken leg with lemongrass, lemon juice, and fish sauce plus a Quiet American cocktail (Wild Turkey whiskey, lemon, ginger, and grapefruit bitters)
  • Migas Mercado: Crab burger and sparkling sangria cocktail
  • F Bistronome: Tagliatelle with bolognese beef ragu and house wine
  • Hana by Hatsune: Aki sushi tartare (11 different sashimi cuts plated over sushi rice) and Kirin beer

You can start your food crawl at any time on Nov 11 and 12 (restaurant opening hours vary, but are generally from 11am-10pm). Tickets can be purchased from any of the four participating restaurants or for pick up in Sanlitun and Dongzhimen by contacting LumDimSum on WeChat.

While eating your way through one of Beijing's best gourmet landmarks, you'll also be doing your bit for charity, as RMB 60 from every ticket purchased will be donated to BJ Foodies' current charity, the World Refugee Crisis Fund. The World Refugee Crisis Fund is a personal project of Brian Germain, a psychology teacher at the International School of Beijing who has been visiting Greece and Lebanon over the past few years and will be going to Bangladesh for three weeks over winter break. In Brian's words:

“Even in the modern era, millions of people around the world continue to be displaced by atrocities of war, famine, drought, natural disasters, and exploitation ... This month’s BJ Foodies' event will serve to fund the transitional needs of displaced peoples around the world ... 100 percent of the money raised through this event will go toward providing clean water infrastructure, sanitation, hygiene, and education, which are matters most in need of immediate funding in small areas experiencing a rapid influx in population.”
