Bachata Class
Fiery colors, wide smiles, hot rhythms, and high spirits; exactly how a Monday night should be. Hailing from 1960s Dominican Republic, bachata explores a slower and more romantic dance alongside modern and upbeat sounds. Start with a bachata lesson courtesy of teacher Wang Liang and then show off your fresh moves on the dancefloor (and hope your work schedule doesn't call for a 5am wake up). 9pm. RMB 50. Salsa Caribe

Qigong Practice
If you rise early enough, there's always a chance of spotting groups of grannies practicing tai chi. Or is it kung fu? Wushu? No matter, for you too now have the opportunity to try the ancient art of qigong, a similarly energy-focussed holistic martial arts training system. Every Tuesday, join a Chinese Medicine Center for a blend of movement and meditation that is sure to get your qi flowing. 12.30pm. RMB 80. Da Fu Tang Chinese Medicine Center

Forbidden City Tour
Before you dismiss the Forbidden City as one of Beijing's attractions that you would rather not visit again, give it another shot with Beijing Postcards. The tour team now hosts a crash course on the Forbidden City, with real-life anecdotes, fun facts, and little-known stories. Not you're usual drag-my-feet-through-the-stone-kingdom kind of "purple city" tour, but one that will instead awaken a passion for history in the visitors. 11am. RMB 300. Meet at Tian'anmen West station (registration required)
