Going Green: 7 Hatchet St. Paddy’s Day Parties This Saturday

So you’re planning on wearing green and drinking yourself silly this Saturday (Mar 17), but have yet to answer one question: where? Don’t worry, you have plenty of choices, and most of them involve drink specials. Below are our picks for the seven best places to spend this St. Paddy's Day (alternatively, see the full list of this year's parties here).

St. Patrick’s Day Party at Paddy O’Shea’s
Paddy's is an appropriate first pick, and not only because of its Irish name. After a full week of Irish themed events, Beijing's primo Irish pub will top it off with an all-out Saint Patrick Day party on Saturday. If you can’t wait to get started, they will also be hosting live Irish music on Friday night as a warm-up for the big day. Free. 7pm till late. Paddy O'Shea's

St. Patrick’s Day Brunch at The Local Bar & Grill
Head to The Local between noon and 3pm on Saturday for a slew of drink specials along with complimentary necklaces and tattoos (don't worry, of the temporary kind). On a day that can never get started too early, this is a great place to begin. Free. Noon-3pm. The Local

A Pirate’s Paddy's at Caravan
On Saturday night Caravan will host Scotland-native Hugh Reed’s band, Hugh Reed and The Electric Shadows, along with Clustercuss. There will also be pirates, leprechauns, and green rum, making for an altogether more potent alternative to green beer. Spending St. Patrick’s Day at a Moroccan bar never made more sense. 9.30pm. RMB 60 Door, RMB 40 (advance) (ticket includes one drink). Caravan

St. Paddy’s Day Shamrock N’ Roll Party at School Bar
Punk venue School will host the Irish rock band Black Water along with Tianjin band R.S.T., Holy Shit!, and Uncle Bad on Saturday night. Added bonuses include no cover charge and specials on Jameson shots. Rock on. Free. 9pm. School Bar

St. Patrick’s Day Dance Party at Mao
Mao Livehouse in Wukesong will play host to DJs David’s Live and Tony Jojo for a night of green fancy dress and "super discounted drinks" galore. RMB 100, RMB 50 (advance). 8.30pm. Mao Livehouse

St. Patricks Party at Slow Boat
You can’t go wrong with spending the holiday at Slow Boat, which opens the floodgates at 11am to serve drink specials throughout Saturday. They're also (unwisely?) using the occasion to roll out their HMS Quad Loko with 13.6 percent ABV, their strongest beer on tap. Free. 11am-2am. Slow Boat

Eclectic Electric: Saint Party’s Night at Aurora
For a different twist on the Celtic jig, Aurora is hosting DJ Half/N/Half to do a marathon set starting late Saturday night. If you like your tracks eclectic, this will be your late-night jam. There will also be green drink specials to keep you going into Sunday morning. 10pm. RMB 50.
