Feel the Burn: Slow Boat Sets Sail For Apr 14-15 Hot & Spicy Fest With American Pub Grub

In the lead up to our inaugural Hot & Spicy Festival on Apr 14-15 at Galaxy Soho, we'll Feel the Burn with a few of the vendors to see what fiery wares they'll be slinging come that rapidly approaching fine spring weekend.

Who says spicy eats need to sting? Sure, numbed tongues and teary eyes are all part of the fun for chili aficionados. But sometimes all you need is a subtle burn for your downhome comfort food teamed with a cool beer. Enter Slow Boat Brewery, which will be slinging Louisiana-style spicy chicken wings, warm Ayioli-topped Fry Burgers, and thirst-inspiring beer battered fries, all of which will leave you pining for one of their pints of craft beer that they will also be doling out at the Hot & Spicy Fest come Apr 14-15.

Ahead of the fiery festivities, the Slow Boat crew has banded together to share a few tongue in cheek details about their wholesome eats.

Tell us what you’ll be bringing to our Hot & Spicy Fest.
We are bringing chicken wings, beer-battered french fries, and the Fry Burger.

Where did the inspiration come from for this grub?
We were inspired to bring these foods by the tantalizing prospect of not having to come up with anything new for the festival. Having successfully achieved our first goal, our chicken wings use a mild spice that hails from Louisiana, in the US of goddamn A. We trace the lineage of our spuds back to a tiny coastal mountainous desert resort town in Bolivia. Slow Boat beer is our medicine and secret sauce. Lastly, the Fry Burger is a savory beef bomb topped with a pile of the aforementioned fries, ‘Merican cheese and our East-meets-West signature spicy Ayioli sauce.

What drink do you like to pair with spicy food?
The blood of our enemies, and beer.

What’s the hottest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Anything from Hunan. Everything from Hunan?

What’s your go-to spicy comfort food?
Spicy is bad for healthy. Drink hot water.

In one word, how does eating spicy food make you feel?
Emboldened.

Slow Boat Brewery, along with 40 more of Beijing’s top purveyors of chili-infused grub, will be in attendance at our inaugural Hot & Spicy Festival at Galaxy Soho on Apr 14-15.
