Feel the Burn: BeerCheers Will Soothe the Burn of Their Thai-Inspired Spice with Craft Beer

In the lead up to our inaugural Hot & Spicy Festival on Apr 14-15 at Galaxy Soho, we'll Feel the Burn with a few of the vendors to see what fiery wares they'll be slinging come that rapidly approaching fine spring weekend.

You could be forgiven for feeling like all the craft beer bars in Beijing are in Sanlitun or the hutongs. Enter BeerCheers, which is instead smack in the middle of Shuangjing (in the oddly named Coastal Sailuocheng complex, near Baiziwan), a boon for those who live south of the CBD. The BeerCheers team brew several different varieties of their own beer, which are sold alongside a selection of imported bottled beers. The food menu focuses on western-style pub grub such as buffalo wings, fries, and grilled sausages, along with a few hot treats inspired by a certain special South East Asian destination.

We spoke to BeerCheer store manager, Jabin, about the spicy wares they will be bringing to this weekend's Hot & Spicy Fest.

Tell us what you’ll be bringing to our Hot & Spicy Fest, and what inspired it.
Both of the dishes we are bringing are inspired by Thailand. So, for example, our chili and potato dish is inspired by the time we went to Phuket on holiday and ended up crying from the spice. The idea for our other dish, Thai chicken skewers, comes from another trip to Thailand, where we got a bit lost and comforted ourselves with some tasty chicken skewers from a road-side stall.

What spicy dishes do you sell in your restaurant? Which are the most popular and why?
Our most popular spicy dishes are our chili dog and our buffalo wings.

What drink do you like to pair with spicy food?
We will be bringing our own craft beer to the festival; the perfect match for spicy food!

What’s the hottest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I don't really eat a lot of spicy food myself, so, for me, it has to be buffalo wings.

In one word, how does eating spicy food make you feel?
Like you've been kissed!
